Alcohol Interlock Program
The alcohol interlock program is offered for those found guilty of specific drink driving offences.
By agreeing to have an interlock machine attached to your car, you may be able to reduce the amount of time that you are disqualified from driving, and minimise the impact that not driving has on your employment and lifestyle.
What does an interlock device do?
An interlock device is a piece of equipment that can detect the level of alcohol in your breath.
It is attached to your car ignition, and you blow into it before you start your vehicle.
If it detects alcohol in your breath, your car will not start.
How long will I have to drive with it?
Depending on the nature of your offence, and your particular sentence, you will be designated a ‘minimum interlock participation period’ during which you will have to drive using the interlock machine.
What offences are eligible for the alcohol interlock program?
Below is a table of the offences which may be eligible for the alcohol interlock program, as well as:
A. the minimum disqualification periods (disqualification compliance period), and
B. the minimum length of time you will be required to participate in the alcohol interlock program (minimum interlock participation period).
How can Sydney Drink Driving Lawyers help?
We have years of experience in drink driving cases, and deal with them on a daily basis.
We have a high record of obtaining section 10 dismissals and conditional release orders for our clients, when other lawyers have been unable to.
A non conviction order means you are guilty but don’t get a criminal record or lose your licence.
If a non conviction order isn’t possible, we can ask the magistrate to place you on the alcohol interlock program so you can get your licence back as soon as possible.
Speak to us to discuss your situation, and find out more about your options.
